Just before storm Hans started, a lot of people were looking for a safe haven in Århus. At the end of the harbour our engine died and we were barely able to reach a pole and prevent damage. With help from a friendly sailor we managed to tie up our sailing vessel next to a large motorboat. On the lee side, not ideal, but with a few big fenders all was good. All good places were full anyway so we decided to stay there during Hans, with approval from a harbour representative.A day later, the boat’s owner (a Princess 45) arrived and demanded us to leave. Winds had picked up to 25 knots in the harbor and gusts were picking up. This fine gentleman apparently never left the harbour with his pristine new boat, because he demanded us to leave and find another harbour instead. Apparently, a Princess is made out of cardboard, since this 20 ton motorboat couldn’t handle a 5 ton sailboat next to it.Luckily, a few fine Dutch sailors helped me move the boat to the Sailing Club at the beginning of the harbour, which proposed a much bigger risk to the cardboard Princess anyway. Maybe Princess is the perfect brand name for such harbour dwelling vessels.When I tried to get my money back (paid in advance for 3 nights) I couldn’t reach anyone and in person-harbour masters are rare these days.Maybe the club is’t so bad but its members seem to be. Avoid like the plague and dock your boat at one of the other clubs, preferrably sailing ones.
